Peer-review process
Each submission is handled in tandem by the managing editor and a subject-specific editor, who monitor the entire peer-review process.
The anonymized manuscript is sent for review to two referees, selected among the members of the editorial board, the associate editors, external experts. The referees' reports are reviewed by the subject-specific editor, who recommends acceptance, acceptance with minor changes, revision and resubmission, or rejection. Based on these reports, the editor-in-chief, the managing editor, and the subject-specific editor jointly decide what action to take.
Usually within 3 months of submission, the managing editor sends the final decision to the author, in most cases together with the referees’ reports. In case of acceptance with minor changes, the managing editor and the subject-specific editor verify that the revised version incorporates the changes requested by the referees prior to final acceptance.
Manuscripts submitted by members of the editorial board or by the associate editors are treated like any other submission.
Submission guidelines for thematic issues
Thematic issues may be published in relation to a conference or ad hoc. They are published under the responsibility of one or more editors.
As of May 2010, the Editorial Board of the Journal has decided that all thematic issues must be based on calls for papers. Manuscripts are preselected by the editor(s), and then processed according to the procedure for individual papers.
The peer-review process may in some cases be adapted, when the manuscripts have already been preselected for a conference. Editors of Philosophia Scientiæ perform a global evaluation of the issue to determine its suitability for publication.
Please feel free to contact the managing editor to discuss your publishing project: philosophiascientiae@univ-nancy2.fr.
